HOT TEA SIMULATION (2023)

This project was a short one to practice some Houdini skills. I went back and relearned some of the basics in a Houdini Insight course and what better way to learn the basics than put it into practice. Usually, it can be better to start simple and get something basic working very well.

I collected some reference footage while I was having my morning tea

Model Mug

I started by modelling the mug itself because I had just gone over some modelling lessons in Houdini and a mug was a good simple start.

PYRO SOLVER

I built the pyro solver from scratch as that is what I have been focusing on learning recently. It's quite a simple simulation, the main challenge was getting it to look right.

I kept the solver quite simple and only adjusted shape parameters

on the solver itself.

first pass

some notes I gave myself after comparing to reference

- I feel the speed is good and its relatively close

- the reference seems to have a lot more swirl, this simulation needs more turbulence or disturbance

- dissipation needs some variation
